Catalan Language Course

How Can I Help?

BASIC Catalan courses are now required for all work permit holders.

If you were approved for a work permit after November 2024 you are required at the first renewal to do a basic Catalan A1 course, and at second renewal the basic Catalan A2 course. There is a provision that for those that can speak Catalan or who learn Catalan on their own can go straight to an exam and get the required certificate. The course itself is a 30 hour course and lasts 4 months.

Please note that they have introduce a virtual course, also on the links below, but you need to be aware of the next course available to put your name down.

The Catalan A1 course syllabus is attached in the links below.

There are also instructions as to how to attend the course which seems to be quite well overbooked most of the time.

Please note that existing residents are not required to do any Catalan courses. Also please note that the basic Catalan language requirement only extends currently to work permit holders and does not extend to any other categories of residency.

It is intended that new applicants after 2029 in all categories will require the same language course requirements for renewals.

I have included on this page the following: –

The audio part of the Course which involves oral comprehension and interpretation. (156 MB)

The exam will be based solely on the above

In order to book your place on a course or an exam you need to pay attention to this website. This website is the Gospel, BUT it assumes you already are fluent in Catalan so you will require Mr. Google to help.

When the course is open ( I am told)  you can book the next course. In effect this is fastest fingers first, so if you are on a work permit you only have one year in which to get the certificate.
